Clicks on short links

Screen: Short links, address /analytics/shorter.

A short link is switched on in the send form, and this screen is where its clicks show up.

Short link search
The screen works by link

This report opens on a field rather than on a list. Paste the original link — the address you put in the message before it was shortened — and the screen shows the clicks on it.

Clicks are stored against the link itself, which is why the link is what the screen asks for.

What a click carries

A click carries the time, the device or browser it came from, and where it came from. It is an event on the link: the campaign report is the place where the click meets a phone number.

The bot filter

A large share of clicks on any link in a message comes from software rather than people. Link scanners in messaging apps, antivirus software and mail gateways open every link they see, sometimes within a second of delivery.

The without bots filter takes the obvious ones out. It is a filter, not a truth: leave it on when you want to know how many people were interested, take it off when you want to know how many times the link was opened at all.

One person can click more than once

From the message, then again from their history. The report counts events, so a campaign to a hundred recipients can honestly show three hundred clicks — read the number as interest, and take the count of recipients from the campaign card.
