Automatic top-up

Screen: Auto top-up, address /finances/autopay.

One name, two very different things

Read this before switching it on

By bank transfer — when the balance falls below the threshold, Blackbox Business issues an invoice and sends it to you by e-mail. The money lands on the balance once that invoice is paid.

By card — the saved card is charged, and the money appears on the balance on its own.

The first keeps the paperwork ready for you. The second puts money on the balance. Choose by what you want to happen while nobody is looking at the screen.

The threshold and the amount

Two numbers, and they are not the same thing.

  • The threshold is the balance at which the top-up is triggered.
  • The amount is how much is added.

Keep the amount comfortably above the threshold: one top-up then lasts, instead of landing you just above the trigger and firing again the same day. A useful rule is to set the amount to cover your normal week and the threshold to cover a single ordinary campaign.

The exact numbers are on the screen

Limits, prices and the set of available options are tuned to your account. This documentation gives the meaning rather than the figure: the current value is always shown on the screen, next to the field it applies to.

The delay

There is a gap between the balance crossing the threshold and the money arriving. Auto top-up keeps you funded over days and weeks; before a large campaign, top up in advance and start it with the money already on the balance.

History

The screen keeps a list of when the automatic top-up fired and what came of it. That is the place to check whether it worked, rather than deducing it from the balance.

Switching it off

The switch on the same screen turns it off, and nothing else is needed. The saved card stays on the account; removing it is a separate action.
